Seminar: Using AI in LCA

Date:Wednesday, 20 January, 2027 Time:09:00 - 12:00 CET
AI has the potential to change existing workflows and practices in a radical way. This includes LCA and its use in industry, academia and policymaking. In this seminar, different speakers from the perspective of industry, consultancy, research, and verification will share their views and experience of using AI in LCA. Through discussions in smaller groups, participants will be able to share their own experiences and thoughts on the topic.

The seminar aims to let participants:

  • Learn and be inspired about the latest developments and applications
  • Discuss and share experiences of AI in LCA
  • Network with others
  • Suggest actions for how the Swedish Life Cycle Center can work on the topic in the future

Target group

The seminar is aimed for you who is interested in the topic of using AI in LCA. No previous experience of AI is required, but we welcome participants to share their good and bad examples of trying to use such tools in their work. Participants can come from industry, universities, research institutes, government agencies, SMEs or other organizations working with LCA and the life cycle perspective.

Moderator

Kristian Jelse

Kristian Jelse is a sustainability consultant and the owner of Greendesk. He has a MSc. in Engineering Physics and Industrial Ecology from Chalmers University of Technology, and has since 2008 worked with applying, developing and communicating the life cycle perspective and its applications. As moderator for the seminar, he will help guide the participants through the presentations and discussions on AI in LCA.

Speakers

Astu Sam Pratiwi

Astu Sam Pratiwi is a Sustainability Manager at Volvo Group with more than 10 years of experience in life cycle assessment (LCA) as both an industry practitioner and researcher. She is currently working at the intersection of Scope 3.1 emissions, data, and supplier engagement. She will share practical insights on how AI is accelerating scope 3.1 reporting efforts while highlighting key challenges and lessons learned.

Kasper Persson Palmqvist

Kasper Persson Palmqvist works as a product developer and designer at Miljögiraff. After studying industrial design engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, he has since 2024 combined LCA expertise with design thinking. His skills in user-centric design and prototyping expand Miljögiraff’s toolset, opening new possibilities for efficient LCA work. He will present how combining AI with LCA expertise can transform the way we handle large-scale data.

Javid Isayev

Javid Isayev is a Doctoral Researcher at UCLouvain and an MSCA PhD Fellow in the SusMatEner project. He holds an MSc in Materials Science from the University of Bordeaux and TU Darmstadt. His research focuses on integrating artificial intelligence into Life Cycle Assessment to support sustainable materials-by-design for renewable energy. In this seminar, he will present his work on AI-assisted Life Cycle Inventory data collection.

Anni Oviir

Anni Oviir is an EPD verifier and co-founder of Lodestellar, with more than a decade of experience in life cycle assessment. Through her consultancy, LCA Support, she has worked extensively in both EPD development and verification. At Lodestellar, she develops AI-powered tools that review EPDs and background reports against EN 15804+A2 and programme rules before formal verification. In her talk, she will explore where AI is already adding value to the verification process, and where human expertise remains essential.

This seminar is given within the project Innovation cluster for the life cycle perspektive, with funding from the Swedish Energy Agency and partners in the Center.
