The life cycle perspective described in four short films

The Swedish Life Cycle Center launches four short films on life cycle thinking. The films give insight into the different uses of the life cycle perspective and life cycle assessment in partner organisations, and how collaboration is the key when moving forward.

The films aim to explains the life cycle perspective in a broader context and increase understanding of the role of the life cycle perspective when making sustainable and long-term decisions. Three people with different perspectives, Eva Ahlner, Senior Advisor at Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, Helle Herk-Hansen, Head of Environment at Vattenfall and Holger Wallbaum, Professor in Sustainable building at Architecture and Civil Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology are interviewed about the use of the life cycle perspective and LCA in their respective organizations. The films have been produced within the project Swedish Platform for the Life Cycle Perspective, funded by the Swedish Energy Agency and partners in the Swedish Life Cycle Center and they are free to share, use and enjoy!

The title of the first and main film in the series is “The Life Cycle Perspective – The art of making good, long-term and sustainable decisions“.

To complement the overview given in the first film three interview films were also produced.

“The Life Cycle Perspective at Chalmers University of Technology” with Holger Wallbaum, Professor in Sustainable building at Architecture and Civil Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. Holger explains how the life cycle perspective is included in both research and education and why it is important with collaboration between the authorities, the academy and the civil society.

“The Life Cycle Perspective at Vattenfall” with Helle Herk-Hansen, Head of Environment at Vattenfall. Helle gives insights into how a company works with the life cycle perspective and LCA to identifying the largest environmental impact within a product’s value chain and how LCA makes it possible to be completely transparent concerning the environmental impact of an energy source.

“The Life Cycle Perspective at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency” with Eva Ahlner, Senior Advisor at Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. Eva explains how the agency works with the life cycle perspective to monitor consumption-based emissions in a globalized world and why having access to scientific and harmonized data is crucial for policymaking.
