Thursday, 22 December, 2016

The project Good examples – Inspiration to energy efficiency through the entire value chain aimed to develop knowledge about how Swedish organizations from different sectors of the society are using the life cycle perspective, to identify useful and good examples, and to spread knowledge about these examples, in order to contribute to a reduction of Sweden’s climate impact and energy use through the entire value chain. Through pedagogically presented and accessible examples, chosen by a survey, the project aimed to show a breadth of activities which organizations can use, as well as a breadth of impacts which these activities generate. The project sought to contribute to increased motivation and inspiration among organizations to see the possibilities with an introduction of the life cycle perspective as an enabler for innovation and competitiveness, and to achieve energy efficiency through the entire value chain. Within the project, a check list has been developed, which aims to facilitate for organizations who wish to get started with their work with the life cycle perspective.

The result from the project shows that, by using the life cycle perspective the participating organizations have been able to reduce their energy use and hence also their climate impacts, and they have been able to make financial savings. While several challenges have been identified by the organizations, the utility of the work with the life cycle perspective has been great. The recommendation of the project is hence that even though the challenges may seem great, it is important to get started in order to learn along the way and to achieve the desired results. The life cycle perspective is crucial for organizations who wish to reduce their environmental impacts and achieve climate- and energy efficiency goals.

All good examples are available both in English and Swedish and the report in Swedish only.
