New guideline for valuing environmental related costs and profits published

Thursday, 28 November, 2019

A new standard (SS 14007:2019) aiming to guide organizations in determing and valuating their environment-related costs and profits for e.g. an investment or product development, has recently been published as a Swedish standard by SIS (the Swedish Institute for Standards). The process of determine environmentally related costs and profits can be seen as a strategic addition for those who are already counting on the costs of emissions, environmental damage or the value of ecosystems that the organization causes and is dependent on.

– The standard gives you support to set up guidelines for the analysis, which data to use and how and how the documentation can be communicated in the own organization before financial decisions, says Bengt Steen, professor emeritus at Chalmers University of Technology and expert in the development of the standard.

The standard can also guide authorities or legislators, such as taxes or the revision of EU directives in the environmental field.

The full name of the new standard is SS-ISO 14007:2019 Miljöledning – Vägledning för bestämning av miljörelaterade kostnader och vinster and is a complementary standard to ISO 14008:2019 Monetary valuation of environmental impacts and related environmental aspects.
