Agenda: LCA, biodiversity and case studies

• Welcome and introduction by Anna Wikström (SLC) and Sara Hornborg (RISE)
• The theme for this meeting is “LCA, biodiversity and case studies” and will include the following presentations and speakers:
  • Sara Sjögren and Klara Larsson, and/or their thesis supervisor Rickard Arvidsson (Chalmers University of Technology), on the operationalization of ‘biodiversity’ in LCA in terms of the ecosystem quality endpoint indicator, comparing the approaches from the LCIA packages ReCiPe, IMPACT World+ and LC-IMPACT. The approaches are illustrated in a case study of the battery material nickel, and the study was performed in collaboration with Volvo Cars.
  • Lindsey Lohan (SLU), on the development and validation of biodiversity characterization factors with field data from Swedish grasslands, possibly also further the discussion on different reference situation choices and their implications when applied to biodiversity impacts in LCA.
  • Emke Vrasdonk (IVL), on the development of a spatially explicit biodiversity method within the EU CALIMERO project, focusing on land use impacts on structural landscape connectivity. Initially applied to forestry in Swedish regions, the method is intended for integration into the LCA method bioMAPS, and would complement LANCA, for a more complete land use characterization-e.g., for use in PEF.
