Life Cycle Talks: How to assess the environmental performance of emerging technologies? With Matty Janssen
Welcome to Life Cycle Talks! A series of talks presenting the research front to keep you up to date with the science and application of the life cycle perspective. Our next guest is Matty Janssen, Senior researcher at Chalmers University of Technology.
He will talk about how to assess environmental performance and impact of emerging technologies. He will give a short overview of various methods that can be used within the framework of prospective (or future-oriented) LCA. In particular, he will focus on a newly developed method for building future scenarios and on how this method can be Incorporated Into prospective LCA. An example of its application will be used to further clarify the new scenario method.

Presenter
Matty Janssen is a senior researcher at Chalmers University of Technology and his research addresses life cycle assessment (LCA) during technology development, specifically its application to assess technology that is in its early stages of development. His research focuses on method development for such prospective assessments. Application areas have been biorefinery processes and products (biofuels, bio-based chemicals and bio-based materials), and circular economy solutions (e.g. second use and material recycling of Li-ion batteries).
